DESIGNING A SIMPLE LAN USING CISCO TECHNOLOGY

CCNA

TIPS :

Understand the differences between hub, bridge, switch & router.
Understand the terms collision domain versus broadcast domain.
Understand the 7 layers of OSI model including examples to each of the layers. (All People Seems To Need Data Processing)
A- layer 7 Application
P- layer 6 Presentation
S- layer 5 Session
T- layer 4 Transport
N -layer 3 Network
D - layer 2 Datalink
P - layer 1 Physical

Routers:
layer 3 device
route packets
logical separation of LOCAL AREA NETWORKs - subnetting, create different broadcast domains.

Switches:
layer 2 device
switch frames
create one broadcast domain but separate different collision domains
Each and every port in switches create its own collision domains

Note : Switches create separate collision domains, but only one broadcast domain. Routers create separate broadcast domains.

Bridges:
Same functionality as switch except lower in specification like number of ports
Normally fewer ports than switch

Hubs:
lowest end of the above equiptment
Does not separate collision domains & broadcast domains at all

Note: router breaks up broadcast domains for every LAN interface, but it also breaks up collision domains as well
